I am amazed the joy art brings to people! I facilitated a corporate art team building event in March. The theme was for each participant to create a leadership landscape. I created 40 under paintings and each individual was encouraged to create an “I AM” word tree that describes them and their unique skills and talents. Each individual has their own song, their own offering that makes up they over all success of the company. This group was doing an extensive leadership academy for a one year commitment.
Doctors, surgeons, neurosurgeons, hospital executives and upper management staff became instant artists. People who only painted in grade school and had never held a brush in their adult life! Well, I certainly could not tell! They dove right in the exercise. I gave a brief explanation as to what we were seeking to achieve and before I knew it they were filling in their trees and and painting their landscapes. I was so impressed by the encouragement, assertiveness and vigor these participants brought. No doubt a leadership academy that was fearless and supportive of each other. This group was committed to personal excellence and had explored their own emotional intelligence.
As they completed the “I AM” word tree and wrapped up the evening of painting, the participants one by one paraded their landscape around the room. The coworkers were clapping and cheering and encouraging one another. I laughed till my face hurt and my heart felt so full. I knew I had given them new tools to explore their strengths and challenges within themselves. They now have a visual reminder to show up in a good way and bring their best foot forward each day.
Painting helps people heal and recognize how beautiful their landscape within really is when they are tuned into it. Nurturing what serves themselves and others.
